When you are laying short price favourites inevitably there are going to be horses that win! Sadly I had three in a row, for the first time in a long time!
It was nice to be back on track today with an EVEN MONEY (SP) lay that was UNPLACED. It is easy to compromise your principles and start laying bigger prices, but I stick to my guns and keep aying short prices!
I went away for a couple of weeks, and though I had UK Tv the internet proved a bit more elusive, hence no update for a couple of weeks!
I am pleased that things are going well and even happier that I got one of Sir Michael Stoute’s horses beaten at short odds in Verdant. It has been a good start to the month and in fairness April as a profitable one too.
You will see that the advice I give is much more direct and to the point. I got moans from people about my own lays and strategy so I just took them out of the emails. If it is an account lay I put it out, if not I don’t!
Frankel was sensational. Not alot more to say on that, simply sensational.
So back in the UK and working hard, will update the blog more often now than I could with limited internet in Spain.
Margot did went off as hot favourite at Ascot. I didnt think it was one to back and was a great value lay. 2/1 and only third. Hayley Turner is a good jockey, very good, but I thought she gave Margot did a big too much to do! Still we take it as a winner.
I am sorry about the results page, I am away at the moment and have buggered it up! I will get it up to date next week when I get back to my desk top. Its been a good month. The odd hick-up but a good first month….so far!
Short Prices are the key to Lay Betting!
Just as yesterday we took on a favourite in the closing bumper and got another result. Grabtheglory was beaten out of sight by Royal Guardsman, who is from the same stable as Cue Card, Champion Bumber Winner.
Laying short priced horses in bumpers is a profitable strategy, the market makes the horse with the best form favourite, but ofthen that is moderate and with so many unexposed horses from good yards in the line up 3.1 this morning, and an SP of 6/4 was well worth takimg on. QED;
1st 11 Royal Guardsman (IRE) 15-2
2nd 5 Grabtheglory (IRE) 6-4 F
3rd 4 Gores Island (IRE) 9-2
Bumpers, or National Hunt Flat Races I always think are great races to lay in. The favourite is generally one which has either shown a modicum of ability or is an unraced horse with a big reputation.
Very few favourites actually win bumpers, so when, like today, a short price favourite who has run once and placed fourth with so many unexposed runner is always worth taking on.
The percentages are well and truly in the layers favour. A good result today, another one beaten!
1st 12 Wilde Ruby (IRE) 6-1
2nd 2 Skenakilla Cross (IRE) 10-3 F
3rd 4 Splendid Blue (IRE) 16-1
I was counting the cash today, Lion On The Prowl was jumping fluently and was miles clear turning in at Chepstow. Then his jumping went to pot allowing Awesome Freddie to catch up.
Luckily he took the last well and went away again, but it was far closer than I thought! It was a great ride by Sean Quinlan I have to say, but I think that we can count ourselves a bit lucky.
They say luck evens itself out, and on Monday at Windsor we were on the wrong side of a narrow margin, so swings and roundabouts ! Its another one in the bank though!
Back tomorrow!
Bad Horses in Bad Races, the favourite is usually a bad horse and the market is rarely a good guide to these races as we saw today with Blue Nymph who was unplaced at Catterick, shocking race really. I would never back anything in a race like that.
I was asked if there was an alternative to Betfair, well the only credible alternative to Betfair is Betdaq. For layers at a certain level then this is a perfect alternative and they indeed offer lower commissions and no premium charge. So if you want to try them then give them a try:-
It was a great day really. The lays I looked at both were beaten, Rubenstar and Record Breaker and the lay of the day was also beaten. I did mention that I had heard Pipe’s fancied their horse, which won at 11-4.
Speaking of winners we sent out some LATE INFO which was for Brabazon which won backed from 7-4 in to 11-8. That was from Carl Harris and there is a great offer if you join his service that we sent out by email. You get the best of both worlds there, winners and losers!
Sara’s Smile really drifted, luckily there was a non runner which brought the price back to a reasonable one. We had a good day that is for sure.
Another day tomorrow, back to the form books for me, after a beer and a curry though!
Well Today We suffered our first seback, certainly my first setback since joining Layform. First Battallion was alwasy struggling to get infront but it was Ryan Moore who picked him up and carried him over the line, how he won I have no idea. That is why he is ome of he best in the world. An excellent ride.
I am disappointed of course but there is no way we can lay favourites and and have a 100% strike rate, I will try though! As I said previously it is what you make at the end of the month.
It was a narrow victory, and you never panic, you keep cakm and carry on!
